Sergeant Stanley Parks was the watch commander of the Detroit Police Department Metro South Precinct. Parks often drove the Tactical Command Vehicle.

Biography[]

Early in Parks' career, he worked in Chicago, where he faced the Thrill Killers, led by Albert Delorio.[1]

Parks responded to a hostage crisis at Convalescence Services. As he tried to figure out a plan to apprehend William Ray Morgan and his accomplices, Parks granted a brief interview with Charles Coffey, explaining Morgan's obsession with revenge upon RoboCop after an arrest five years prior.[2]

On several occasions, Gadget would escape Family Services and make her way to Metro South, consistently leading to Parks removing her from the building, such as one occasion where the girl found herself in RoboCop's service room. Parks caught Gadget and dragged her from the room to send her back to Family Services.[2]

Following the kidnapping of Henry Aaron Winkler by the Dogtown Ripper, Madigan expressed to Parks her frustrations that the case was not being investigated, but Parks insisted on following department protocol. Just then, Gadget returned to the station, saying that she had witnessed Winkler's abduction. However, Parks did not believe her, instead asking RoboCop to return her to Family Services.[2]

After OCP shut down the Dogtown Ripper case, Madigan came to Parks, who informed her that OCP had ordered her demotion to the traffic department. As Madigan left, Gadget called Parks to report that Fanny LaMour was sending children to the Dogtown Boys. An employee at Family Services caught Gadget and hung up the phone. Parks quietly remarked that he wished he could help her.[2]

After being disabled by an attack by Morgan, RoboCop was reactivated under orders by the OCP Chairman. However, Chip Chayken managed to sabotage RoboCop's memory banks, making his evidence in the Ripper case inaccessible. In figuring out how else to build a case against Mallardo, Parks decided to see Gadget about her witnessing of Winkler's abduction.[2]

Parks arrived at Family Services, finding the interior to be run-down. He was met by LaMour, who insisted that Gadget was in bed. However, he then saw Gadget on Umberto Ortega's live broadcast of What's on Your Mind? and remarked to LaMour that he knew where Gadget had learned to lie.[2]

Parks went to the studio to retrieve Gadget, who suspected that he liked her and he admitted that he was perhaps beginning to. He was then informed over the radio of a power failure potentially prompting looting. He ordered all officers to be on standby as he went to Public Works to provide backup to RoboCop. There, Gadget saw Chayken and told Parks and Madigan that he was the Dogtown Ripper, an assertion that Parks immediately believed.[2]

With Mallardo and Chayken arrested with help from Gadget, Parks offered to adopt her and the two embraced.[2]

Parks accompanied Madigan in the questioning of Mayor Fred Friendly, who was caught by RoboCop accepting money from Vladimir Molotov, head of Detroit's Russian mafia. He asked Friendly if he had anything to comment on the evidence against him, but only got a refusal.[3]

Moments later, protestors led by Reverend Robert Taker stormed the precinct. Parks tried to convince the mob to go back outside, but his demands fell on deaf ears. After RoboCop personally confronted the group and asked them to disperse, Parks advised that RoboCop leave, his presence only making the protests worse. Taker soon left with his group, but promised to be back.[3]

After Robert Taker was murdered, Parks and Madigan went to the scene. Parks learned that Madigan had questioned both Taker's wife and the mayor, but expressed doubts over the mayor's claimed alibi. Parks presented Madigan with an Auto 9 round found at the scene, a type of firearm known to be used by only RoboCop. Paired with the fact that the killer must have utilized thermographic targeting, a capability RoboCop had. Parks informed Madigan that OCP believed RoboCop to be responsible and a representative ordered RoboCop's shutdown.[3]

Parks oversaw Madigan's questioning of Friendly utilizing a Vee-Ess Analyzer, which could not conclusively tell his lies from the truth because of his political background. Soon, Bambi Taker burst in and revealed that she and Friendly were together the night of the murder.[3]

During a surge of violent crime, Metro South was force beyond capacity and Parks was at a loss as to what to do with their overflow. RoboCop approached him with Detective Madigan, whom he had arrested on the charges of speeding, reckless driving, evading arrest, endangering the public, and possession of an impound vehicle. Parks told him to take Madigan to his office, where Madigan attempted to explain her actions, but gave no excuse. Parks then placed her on suspension.[4]

He later ran into Gadget, who dropped documents that indicated that the influx of criminals was due to their use of the diet pill No Gain. He relayed this evidence to OCP, who quickly recalled No Gain. Parks went to RoboCop with this information and the two went to a No Gain distribution facility, where the police engaged in a gunfight with men working for Pudface Morgan. The police triumphed and arrested the men.[4]

Parks was unaware when RoboCop set out to give a ride-along to the OCP Chairman, only being informed as such when OCP executive Aubrey Fox came to the precinct, fearing for the Chairman's safety. Seeing RoboCop's signal in Old Detroit, he ordered more officers onto the streets. Once RoboCop's signal was lost, Parks and Fox went to old Detroit, finding RoboCop's TurboCruiser a fiery wreck, with the policeman and Chairman nowhere to be found.[5]

After returning to the precinct, Fox suggested lying about the situation, frustrating the dispatcher Bea, who got up to go be with her family in Old Detroit. Understanding her irritation with OCP's penchant for deception, Parks allowed her to go, but requested that she return.[5]

Parks responded to a robbery at an Omni Militech facility, where RoboCop had been disabled by stolen weaponry. As Madigan arrived and took over the scene, Parks provided her with the only forensic evidence: a set of military dogtags. Vice President of Omni Militech, Eugene Omar, approached Parks and Madigan, expressing his distaste with Madigan being put in charge of the case. Parks later relayed to Madigan that Omar demanded a meeting with her.[6]

RoboCop and Madigan soon resolved the case, finding that a unit of drugged ex-soldiers had been the perpetrators. Among them was Sergeant Frank Uno, a childhood friend of Alex Murphy. Parks joined RoboCop, Madigan, and Gadget in honoring Frank's memory, hoping that the Amazon War would soon end.[6]

Parks introduced the new Vice President of OCP Security Concepts, Foster, to the precinct. However, his mood soon soured when Foster announced that the Community Action Patrol, also called the CAP Crew, was being given exclusive police duties of Zone Five. Parks particularly took issue with the group's leader being Albert Delorio, recognizing him as the former leader of the Chicago Thrill Killers.

Parks aired his grievances to the OCP Chairman, who brushed him off, citing the financial benefit of hiring the group and Dr. Newlove's assertion that former criminals made the best police officers. He further took issue with the CAP Crew when OCP forced Lippencott to install a chip into RoboCop which forbade him from entering Zone Five.[1]

Later, Nancy Murphy came to the precinct to inform them that her son Jimmy had learned the CAP Crew was responsible for the manufacture and distribution of the drug Fun. Upon RoboCop's request, Parks and Madigan used this evidence to successfully convince the Chairman into reversing RoboCop's ban from Zone Five.[1]

After a bombing near a protest led by Nancy Murphy and Father Gregory Marks against Web Care, Parks arrived shortly after RoboCop. Parks demanded Web Care to release Nancy and Marks from their custody, but Web Care executive Martin insisted that their arrest was perfectly legal under Provision 22 and said Parks would need a court order to release them.[7]

When Madigan determined that the bomb had likely been set by someone other than the protestors, she found a suspect in footage of the event. His image matched that of Harry Flitch, which Parks printed off, finding multiple arrests for arson. RoboCop then called Parks, asking him to search for an Intent to Arrest form filed for Nancy. Parks found no such document. He later informed RoboCop that Madigan had fallen out of contact near Father Marks' mission.[7]

Shortly after summoning RoboCop to serve as security for Judge Clarence Hall during a dedication ceremony for a new courthouse, Parks put out an all-points-bulletin for Pudface Morgan after his escape from the Henry Ford Center for the Morally Challenged. Soon thereafter, Gadget alerted Parks that Morgan had initiated RoboCop's termination command sequence. Parks was unable to contact the Chairman to allow Charlie access to OCP's SatNet. Parks and Gadget convinced Charlie to hack into it and reverse the termination sequence.[8]

After a woman attempted to assassinate Tori Tolan amid a protest, the woman was arrested and booked. Parks told RoboCop that the woman's husband was a supplier for Cryonautics Laboratories and his business went under when Tolan took over Cryonautics, leading to him jumping off a bridge. Madigan then arrived after escorting Tolan home, telling Parks that Tolan blamed the police for the attempt on her life.[9]

When Cryonautics scientist Eric Marley was attacked, he claimed to the police that he did not know who his attacker was. Parks relayed this information to Madigan, who had her doubts. Parks then retrieved RoboCop, who had been summoned by Tolan to serve as her bodyguard.[9]

Following a bombing seemingly intended to harm Tolan, Cryonautics employee Jack Dixon was blamed. His colleague Owen Merritt was interrogated by Parks, who doubted his claims of innocence. Tolan later came to the precinct, asking Parks about the murder of Eric Marley.[9]

Responding to a bomb that was set to harm Russell and Dorothy Murphy – the parents of Alex Murphy – Parks responded to the scene. He offered a safehouse to the couple, but Russell declined, feeling that the bomber Felix Webber, would focus on going after OCP instead of him.[10]

Parks and Madigan later helped Russell convince Webber that the Chairman was being arrested by placing him in handcuffs and taking him away.[10]

Parks appeared on What's on Your Mind? to discuss the television program, Inside Crime, which would follow criminals with a camera crew. When the director accused RoboCop of contributing to the show profiting off of Pudface Morgan's appearance on it, Parks pointed out that RoboCop was just doing his job. Parks also lamented the fact that Inside Crime had their own hotline for criminals to report their own activities to get on the show, which the police did not have access to.[11]

Parks helped prepare for the largest-ever shipment of gold bullion, assuring Delta City Bank worker Brendan Forbes that the armored car it would be transported in was impenetrable. He and RoboCop felt that Pudface would attempt to rob the car. However, as it became known that Pudface was purchasing various supplies, RoboCop suggested that he was instead targeting the vault. During the transport, Parks accompanied Forbes inside the armored car with the gold.[11]

When Pudface's goons held Madigan, Rochelle Carney, the Chairman, and Fox hostage, Parks arrived to the scene alongside RoboCop and several other officers.[11]

While Parks attended a convention in Chicago, he left Gadget in Madigan's care.[12]

While investigating a gun-running operation led by Reggie Braga, Parks assisted RoboCop on a raid of Braga's facility. Braga escaped any charges, though RoboCop received v-phone footage of Braga plotting with "The Magician" to kill the Chairman. Because this footage was inadmissible, Parks assigned RoboCop to continue investigating Braga and for Madigan to find out what she could about The Magician and the hired guns Schmidt and Wilson. Meanwhile, Parks went to the Chairman to inform him about the plans to assassinate him.[13]

Madigan updated Parks on her investigation, saying she found little on Schmidt and Wilson, but found a poster of Milo the Magnificant at a magic shop owned by Adam Roland. In the poster, Milo wore the same outfit as The Magician, but Milo could not be their suspect, as he died sixteen years prior in a plane crash. Noting that Madigan was romantically interested in the shop owner, Adam, Parks grew suspicious of him, especially after uncovering an old news article saying that Milo's son Jamie's remains were not found in the plane wreckage, despite Adam saying the boy had died in the same crash.[13]

Madigan later determined The Magician to be Tish Collier, a key person in the design of the Interceptor Mark II. After the assassination plot and an attempt on RoboCop were foiled, Parks took part in another raid on Braga's facility, apprehending Tish.[13]

Parks had a knack for not actually reading memos and just initialing them, and advised Madigan to do the same. However, because of this practice, Parks unwittingly approved a Commander Cash lotto scratcher machine being installed in the precinct.[14]

When RoboCop suddenly began researching Timothy Malloy, Parks explained to Madigan that Malloy was one Murphy's partner until being convicted of the assault of a suspect, due to Murphy testifying against him. Researching further, they found that Malloy had been denied parole three times by Warden J. Michael Trenton, despite good behavior. Parks suggested that Madigan keep an eye on RoboCop.[14]

Parks later caught Gadget scratching Lotto tickets, figuring out that she had been stealing money from others in the precinct to buy more tickets. She tearfully confessed and Parks taught her that there was no such thing as easy money. He told her to apologize to everyone she stole from and promise to pay them back. As she left, a technician came in to retrieve the money from the machine. Parks borrowed the technician's hammer to destroy the machine, ordering him to take it out of the precinct and never install another.[14]

Parks responded to Mirsky Microwave, where RoboCop caught two men carrying out a robbery. After one of them got away and murdered two policemen with a device he stole, Parks and RoboCop questioned the perp who was apprehended, Elliot Jessup. After some convincing, Jessup confessed that they were part of a top secret OCP project led by Wilson Eberhart. While walking the perp out, he was killed in the same manner as the two police officers.[15]

They searched Jessup's apartment, finding various printouts of top secret information, leasing Parks and RoboCop to believe there was a breach in MetroNet. They met with the Chairman, who confirmed that OCP subcontracted Mirsky Microwave to create a non-lethal, laser-guided microwave gun. Eberhart then entered and confirmed that the weapon, known as the Heartbreaker, could be used for lethal means. The Chairman asked for the Heartbreaker to be found and for the MetroNet leak to be resolved.[15]

When RoboCop stole the Heartbreaker's power enhancer from the evidence room and ignored commands to return to the precinct, Parks regretfully put out an all-points bulletin for him. RoboCop was eventually surrounded at Mirky Microwave, where he supposedly stol the Heartbreaker scope, where Parks approached him. The cyborg promised to give himself up after finishing his current task, his time frame ending at midnight. Parks agreed to let him go just before Charlie called him, explaining that RoboCop was trying to save Nancy Murphy's life from arms dealer Conrad Brock.[15]

Parks joined RoboCop at Brock's office, finding Brock to be reduced to a pile of dust and that RoboCop had not actually stolen the scope, just its case. Parks asked RoboCop why he did not explain the situation to him, but Murphy answered that he did not wish to risk Nancy's life.[15]

Parks led a sting operation to catch Vlad Molotov in the act of purchasing smuggled Russian caviar. However, because Molotov wore a Spyguard device, the police's video evidence of the crime was rendered useless. Nevertheless, Parks assured Molotov that he would testify against him in court.[16]

After Molotov's men attempted to kidnap Gadget from the Omni Mall, Parks forbid her from leaving the precinct without him or another officer. He placed a tagger in her pocket to stay aware of her location. This came in handy when Gadget snuck out with Jimmy Murphy to go to Family Services in search of information on her biological mother.[16]

Parks and Gadget fought, leading to the girl filing a request to be reunited with her mother, Sally Modesto. Upon learning about this from Family Services employee Phyllis Leachman, Parks was dumbfounded, but ultimately let Gadget make the decision whether to live with him or Sally.[16]

Gadget decided to live with Sally, and as she tearfully said her goodbyes to Parks, he brushed her hair for her, leaving the brush on his desk before taking her out of the room to Sally. He noted the resemblance between them, down to their hair, managing to get a few strands from Sally's head. He returned to his office and had a DNA test performed with Sally and Gadget's hair, confirming that they were mother and daughter.[16]

RoboCop retrieved Sally's file, which detailed an extensive criminal history. Molotov then called, indicating that he had Gadget in captivity and demanded for Parks to not testify against him, in exchange for Gadget. RoboCop and Diana Powers determined Molotov's location and managed to save Gadget.[16]

Parks arrived to the scene, embracing Gadget, who promised to never leave him again and had been told by Sally that she was not her real mother. Parks sent her to RoboCop as he showed the DNA test results to Sally, who asked him to not tell Gadget the truth, preferring to wait until they both were ready. Gadget then assured Parks that Sally was not a bad person, so he offered to speak to the district attorney on her behalf. RoboCop then asked Parks and Gadget to take care of each other, as they were a family.[16]

After Madigan was involved in a serious bus crash, Parks accompanied RoboCop to the hospital. There, they learned that she had suffered permanent damage to her neck and spine.[17]

Parks later contacted RoboCop when no signal was found from the Delta City Bank's security system. Parks arrived after the fact to oversee the investigation, commending Charlie for his investigatory suggestions.[17]

When Dennis Finch was linked to the remote bus hijack as well as the robbery, Parks learned the location of Finch's backup hideout from his associate Tom and passed it along to RoboCop. He then took Gadget to visit Madigan. As the power began to fail due to Finch using a malicious nano machine on NeuroBrain, Parks helped work to keep Madigan alive until RoboCop cured NeuroBrain, restoring the power.[17]

After Madigan returned to work after receiving experimental surgery with nano machines, Parks sent Madigan and RoboCop to take care of a sniper.[17]

Parks helped Madigan investigate a string of burglaries carried out by the Corporate Raiders, but they struggled to find a trail leading to the perpetrators. After they found a set of non-existent phone numbers within the evidence, Parks sent Madigan to Delta City Telephone to determine what the numbers were.[18]

After being informed by Dorothy Murphy, Parks informed RoboCop that Russell had armed himself and headed to the Big Business Buddies headquarters.[18]

At the OCP Biohazard Containment Facility, Parks, Madigan, and Charlie observed a decontamination team work on RoboCop's cruiser after ricin-x was released inside. When RoboCop exited unharmed, Madigan recognized the can of ricin-x, leading to an investigation of whether Roy Macklin was truly responsible for a massacre at Delta City University two years prior. Parks helped RoboCop find the Sweepers who had tossed the ricin-x into his cruiser.[19]

He later provided backup to RoboCop at the Auto Siberia Wrecking Yard, where several crime bosses and OCP executive Billy Sullivan had been rounded up. RoboCop told the crime bosses that Sullivan was responsible for the raid, prompting them to make threats toward him. Feeling he would be safer in police custody, Sullivan confessed to the Delta City University massacre and framing Macklin for the crime, saying that District Attorney Richard Gless was aware of the plot. Parks tried to call Gless, but Gless immediately hung up.[19]

When Pudface burglarized Security Concepts and blew up the room with RoboCop's supplies, Parks and Madigan surmised that Pudface may have been planning to use RoboCop's own weapons against him, but felt he would still be outmatched.[20]
