Lt. Hedgecock was leader of the Detroit Police Department SWAT.

Biography[]

Hedgecock was present during a hostage situation at Detroit city hall and attempted to negotiate with former city councilman Ron Miller, buying time for RoboCop to enter the building unseen by Miller. Hedgecock offered Miller a brand new 6000 SUX automobile in addition to the former councilman's other demands of reinstating him to his former job and fresh coffee.

Later, Hedgecock was summoned by Dick Jones to the OCP tower's parking complex along with his SWAT team with orders to destroy RoboCop. Kaplan and a few of Detroit officers, including Ramirez, Jerry, Kaplan, Manson, Cecil, Chessman and Starkweather protested and walked off in disgust. Hedgecock ordered his SWAT force to open fire at RoboCop, who escaped to the complex's third level, where Anne Lewis arrived and escaped with RoboCop in tow. Hedgecock's decision to follow the orders ultimately triggered the Detroit Police to go on a strike, plunging Detroit further into chaos.[1]

He was later replaced by another SWAT leader.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

Lt. Hedgecock is portrayed by Michael Gregory. The role was originally two different characters, Hedgecock and a SWAT Captain. Bill Dearth was originally cast in the Hedgecock part, with Gregory as the Captain. After Gregory had drinks with Ed Neumeier and Miguel Ferrer two nights before he was called to be on set, Neumeier spoke to Paul Verhoeven about the casting of these roles, which resulted in the characters being combined and Gregory replacing Dearth.[3]

His animated counterpart has the first name "Roger."
